Harry Hill
Harry Hill has been rumoured to be quitting TV Burp next year by various newspapers today.
According to The Sun, Harry has reportedly refused a £1m pay rise to make his salary £4m to continue doing the show in 2012. They have reported that an ITV source has said:
Harry kept telling people how much he hated doing it but they thought he was joking. He wasn’t.
ITV have said that they have a “great relationship” with Harry and he will be doing the upcoming series as well as a new one in 2012. But, Avalon, Harry’s agents, have said:
Harry has a lot of commitments in the next year, but a final decision has not yet been reached.
However, to provide a bit of clarity to the situation, here is Harry Hill Fansite‘s comment on the report:
Avalon’s comment is not surprising, as Harry’s current contract, which was signed in March 2010, runs to 2012, includes the upcoming series and as confirmed here, another of TV Burp in spring 2012, with a new series of You’ve Been Framed next year. Also, the contract allows for new shows from Harry, which has been utilised this year with two new pilots.
However, both series of TV Burp were options, so there is clearly some desire to provide more episodes currently. With Harry’s contract not due for renewal till next year, it is a little too early to speculate on potential renewal and also what the contract will include, show-wise, resulting in Avalon’s wise comment. Therefore, in our view, it is good to take this report with a pinch of salt as either potentially true, false or a negotiation tactic from an interested party – or even to promote the new series of TV Burp!
Don’t forget Harry has previously been linked to Sky three times (article 1, 2 [both reported by The Sun], 3 [reported by Broadcast]) early before his current contract, which were rejected due to a desire to stay at ITV, and even Channel 5 during it!
Nevertheless, what do you think – should Harry quit TV Burp next year? Vote below:
