In the run up to the last episode of TV Burp ever (or not if you believe The Sun!), we’ve been lucky enough to interview TV Burp favourite (and sausage lover) Heather, otherwise known as Steve Benham. Having appeared on the show for many years, he has given his view on the end of the show, his best bits and what he is doing next!
What is your favourite TV Burp moment over your time on the show?
Well, I have been asked this before and for me, the best sketch has to be “the cake van,” purely for the sheer slapstick quality and the fact that it just never went to plan. Also, with £400 worth of fresh cream cakes, there was only ever gonna be 1 take!
So 4 rehearsals later and I have set a lovely black forest gateaux up as my first target….
Action…on we go then the van starts rocking a bit too hard. By the time I reach my target, it has fallen over, so I turn to grab the next one…. and a box falls in front of me with my head buried into a giant gateaux. I didn’t see the box that came down then I gone over and I’m over, pulling the lot down including Harry….we are laughing and slipping, trying to get up for the finale but I just can’t get up…so stay hidden in hysterics, for Harry, puffing out of breathe, to deliver the classic line: “Are we in Didcot yet, Fiona”
Fantastic, I love watching it…mind you, the smell never left the clothes, so wardrobe made a new set and we kept those ones for messy bits like the sewage sprayer…YUK.
Other than the amount of TV required, what has been hardest about working on the show?
NOTHING AT ALL…kneeling on the wires taped under the carpet behind the desk is the hard bit, it hurts! And I’m a bit above average, so squeezing out of sight is the hardest for sure…but it’s all great stuff.
What are you going to miss most?
That’s easy…everyone involved in the making of TV Burp. They are like a family that look out for each other – make up Venassa & Linda etc., wardrobe Leah, Tina, Kevin etc., floor managers, runners, Spencer the producer, Cat and Peter the director… Also, Harry’s no1 Fan Simon Kalavazides (front row every show, starts queueing at 1.30pm for the 7pm start!!), who has only missed 3 shows since it was first aired. Now that’s dedication…and it’s that sense of above and beyond the call of duty that runs through every aspect of TV Burp with Captain Harry at the helm….and yes, no doubt, I will be very sad tomorrow night after the last show.
What are your upcoming plans?
ZILCH -NIXIES- NOWT- NOTHING
Haven’t got anything planned. I have been working on “Holby City” and “New Tricks” and a production called “Gates” and “Some Girls” that will be on the TV soon, but as for work, from tomorrow onwards, “I’m Free.”
Steve also added:
Many thanks for all the people who tuned in every week. I think that goes overlooked sometimes. It is the dedicated fans that kept this great programme at the front for so long …Thanks every one……”Hev”
